Discover the Exceptional Quality of Château d’Estoublon

Château d’Estoublon is one of Provence’s most distinctive estates, located in the heart of the Alpilles mountains since 1489. Spanning 300 hectares and living to the rhythm of both olive and grape harvests, the estate unites historic heritage with a modern pursuit of excellence across its wines, olive oils, vinegars, and fine food selection.

The estate is renowned for:

Olive oils from the Vallée des Baux-de-Provence PDO, crafted from the great Provençal olive varieties and pressed in the Château’s own mill.

Organic balsamic vinegar made from carefully selected Italian cooked grape musts and red wine vinegar, aged 60 days in oak barrels.

Wines from organically farmed vineyards classified as PDO Les Baux de Provence, with more than 20 years of organic cultivation.

Five Centuries, Four Families: The Story of Estoublon

The estate, originally known as Le Grand Mas, dates back to the Middle Ages under the Baux-de-Provence nobility. In 1489, the de Grille family — a prominent Arles noble lineage — acquired the property, beginning more than four centuries of family stewardship. The château was destroyed during the 1561 capture of Les Baux and rebuilt from 1641; in 1674 the de Grille family was granted the hereditary title of Marquis d’Estoublon, giving the estate its current name. In 1731, the first olive oil mill was built on the property, formally beginning Estoublon’s olive oil tradition.

Ownership passed through several families across the 20th century — sold in 1922, then to the Lombrage family in 1932. After a devastating frost destroyed the olive groves in 1956, the family made the decision to replant by individual variety rather than mixed planting, which is what gave rise to Estoublon’s tradition of single-varietal olive oils. The Schneider family bought the château in 1998 and began the estate’s organic viticulture and olive-growing program.

In 2019/2020, the estate entered its current chapter when French entrepreneur Stéphane Courbit, together with the Prats family — including Jean-Guillaume Prats, former CEO of Cos d’Estournel and now CEO of Château Lafite Rothschild, and his son Jean-Quentin Prats, hands-on in the estate’s development — acquired Château d’Estoublon from the Reboul-Schneider family. The new ownership launched a flagship rosé, Roseblood d’Estoublon, and has continued investing in the estate’s organic wine and olive oil program. In 2021, Estoublon’s expertise was formally recognized by the Comité Colbert, the association representing France’s most prestigious luxury heritage houses.

It’s a genuinely rare lineage: one noble family for over four centuries, followed by a succession of owners who each shaped a specific part of what the estate produces today — including the very reason its olive oils are single-varietal rather than blended.

Its commitment also extends to biodiversity and conservation.
